Salutogenesis Project in Colleges of Chandigarh: Promoting Health through Strengthening the Self
Over last 20-30 years a new field of Health Promotion has emerged i.e. Salutogenesis. This concept deals with the study of the elements that help us cope with stress and other physical & psychological problems. Salutogenic model is opposite of the pathogenic model. It improves our resilience. It seeks to develop a positive subjective state of health and quality of life. A project on this topic is being conducted by Dept. of Community Medicine, PGIMER in 5 colleges of Chandigarh. A lifestyle intervention package is being given to the students. The project focuses on six components-Yoga, Spirituality, Meditation, Philanthropy, Nutritional Counseling & Physical Exercise. The preliminary results of the project will be presented in Indian Public Health Association Conference 2012 in Kochi, Kerala by the research fellows. The Principal Investigator of the project is Dr Amarjeet Singh, Professor, Department of Community Medicine.
